Euterpe Intern Position
Young Adult Writer Development
The Euterpe Young Adult imprint of Musa Publishing is seeking an intern in the area of young adult writer development. The intern would work about 5 hours a week for a term of 6 months.
One of the goals of the Euterpe YA imprint is to encourage and develop young writers. The primary way this is accomplished is through Euterpe’s quarterly Young Adult Writers Contest, though the intern will assist with the development of other methods.
Other duties of the intern will include developing, promoting, and judging the Young Adult Writers Contest; assisting the Head Editor and promotions intern with press releases, blog posts, advertisements, and articles; interviewing past winners and current contestants; receiving and responding to contestant communications; and other duties pertaining to Euterpe’s goal of encouraging and developing young writers.
The intern and the Head Editor will meet at least once a week via Skype to discuss tasks pertinent to the intern’s area of focus, and also to develop the intern’s personal and professional goals and to evaluate the progress on those goals. Other meetings may be required, such as staff meetings and meetings with the Promotions department to coordinate promotional efforts.
The intern will be included in the workings of Euterpe YA and Musa Publishing as both a protégé and professional equal. Professional behavior, such as confidentiality and courtesy, is expected at all times. This position is unpaid, but the intern will gain valuable experience in publishing, editing, and promotions that will serve them well when applying for future paid positions. Letters of reference and certificates of completion will be gladly given to the successful intern.
